Coffee Culture was born and brewed in Sumner with our very first store opening in the seaside suburb of Christchurch, New Zealand in 1996. The dream was to roast coffee right in the heart of the store and share the total coffee experience with our guests. We wanted everyone to get a sense of the amazing process involved in taking green beans and transforming them into steaming hot espresso. In those early days we hoped our guests would love and embrace the culture of coffee.

Many years on, and our staff will be found most mornings sharing their opinion on everything from rugby to women’s fashion with a crew of regulars who pick up their takeaway coffee on their way into Christchurch. And the sun still streams in the windows to warm up the coldest of winter days.

The Hollywood Movie Theatre next door still continues to show great movies and we’re open late to give you somewhere to dissect and discuss movies in detail before you head home. SOme of you will be experiencing some deja vu when you visit Sumner.

Glenn Rewi has joined forces with long time listener (and latte drinker), first time owner Craig Kiesanowski and taken over ownership of the store. Glenn’s been with us since the very early days and it’s great to have him back on the tools (including the old roaster!)

There’s range of delicious desserts and snacks to complement our full range of hot and cold drinks with some old favourites still around since day dot.

The crew would love to meet you so next time you need a coffee buzz or a few moments to yourself, take a drive out to the funky seaside village of Sumner and experience the delights of the original Coffee Culture.
